MACU Falls in Double Header

4.22.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels fell in both games of a double header against the St. Gregory's University Lady Cavaliers in Sooner Athletic Conference play, Tuesday, April 22. The Lady Evangels lost the first game, 2-0, and the second game, 10-0.

In the first game, SGU and MACU were caught in a pitchers dual, as Freshman Kat Tims and SGU pitcher Sharon Bell went head-to-head. Neither pitcher gave up a run in the first five innings of the game.

The Lady Cavaliers got on the board first in the top of the sixth inning, scoring a run and taking a 1-0 lead. The Lady Evangels threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Bell pitched out of a jam. SGU scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning, and held off the Lady Evangels in the bottom of the seventh inning for the win.

Tims pitched seven strong innings, giving up two runs and seven hits. Junior Kasey Gardner and Freshman Alesha Calvery went 1-for-3 on the day.

In the second game, SGU jumped on the Lady Evangels early, and never looked back. The Lady Cavaliers scored five runs in the top of the first innings, and shut-out MACU the rest of the game. The Lady Cavaliers built their lead in the third and sixth innings, cruising to the win.

Freshman Julie Ward, Senior Holly Steckbauer and Gardner went 1-for-3 in the game.

The Lady Evangels drop to 8-40 on the season, and 1-23 in SAC competition.

MACU will battle Southern Nazarene University on the road, Thursday, April 24. First game of the double header will begin at 2:00 p.m.
