April 11, 2008 4.11.08 - SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels lost both games of a double against the St. Gregory's University Lady Cavaliers in Sooner Athletic Conference play, Friday, April 11. The Lady Evangels lost the first game, 5-0, and fell in the second game, 3-2. MACU went 9-for-28 on the day, while the Lady Cavaliers batted 17-for-49 in the two games. The Lady Evangels committed two errors in the first game, but had no errors in the second game. MACU left nine base runners on base. In the first game, SGU jumped on the Lady Evangels early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Both teams were held scoreless for the next three innings, but the Lady Cavaliers stretched its lead, 4-0, in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Lady Cavaliers scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and held off MACU for the win. Freshman Kat Tims pitched six innings, giving up four earned runs, and striking out six SGU batters. In the second game, both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, but the Lady Cavaliers scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning, taking a 2-0 lead. The Lady Evangels held SGU scoreless until the bottom of the sixth, when they stretched its lead, 3-0. MACU rallied in the top of the seventh inning, when Junior Kasey Gardner drove in two runs, cutting the SGU lead, 3-2. However, the Lady Cavaliers stopped the Lady Evangels rally and held on for the win. Gardner finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI's. Senior Holley Steckbauer went 3-for-4, while Freshman Alesha Calvery went 2-for-4 with a run scored. The Lady Evangels drop to 6-32 on the season, and 0-16 in SAC play. MACU will play Southwestern College on the road, Saturday, April 12.
