Bryce Jantz

Jan. 31, 2008

1.31.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University men's soccer team officially wrapped up its season, after handing out post season awards. MACU Head Coach Zach Bice handed out team awards in the first annual soccer banquet.

"I was excited to recognize the player's accomplishments," Coach Bice said. "The awards do not speak for all the players who contributed this year."

The Evangels finished the season 10-8-2 and runner-up honors in the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region Tournament.

Freshman Goalie Austin Custar capped off an outstanding freshman year by winning the Team Most Valuable Player award, which was voted on by the players. Custar also received All-Region Second Team honors.

Junior Forward Bryce Jantz had another outstanding offensive year. Jantz was named team Offensive Player of the Year, while landing All-Region First Team honors and Honorable Mention All-American. Jantz finished the season with a team high 20 goals on the year.

Freshman Tyler Jones was rewarded for his good all-around performance on the field with All-Region First Team honors.

Freshman Matt Ross and Junior Joey Yeisley were rewarded for their outstanding play with All-Region Second Team Honors. Ross was also voted on as the top defensive player for the Evangels and Yeisley was named NCCAA Scholar Athlete.

The Players Choice award was given to Senior Raphe Adair. The Players Choice award is given to the player that exemplifies character on the MACU squad.

"I thought we had a very good season," Coach Bice said. "We have almost everyone coming back. I feel good about our team going into the Sooner Athletic Conference."
