MACU Falls to OCU in SAC Play

3.7.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangel fell to the Oklahoma City University Stars in Sooner Athletic Conference play. The Stars defeated the Evangels 14-1.

MACU went 4-for-23 from the plate on the day, while OCU batted 13-for-33. The Evangels managed just one run in the game, while the Stars scored 14 runs, 12 of the runs being earned. The Stars used big innings in the second and seventh inning to help them come away with the win.

The Evangels jumped on the Stars in the top of the first inning when Junior Jake Scott hit in Senior Jon Reed. The Stars answered in the bottom of the first inning, when they tied the game on a homerun.

OCU shut-out the Evangels the rest of the way, and scored big in the bottom of the second inning, scoring four runs and stretching its lead, 5-1. The Stars scored again in the bottom of the third, while continuing to shut-down MACU.

MACU mowed down the Stars in the fourth and fifth innings, but OCU struck again in the bottom of the sixth inning with three runs and four more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, completing the 14-1 win.

Sophomore Ryan McCoin pitched six innings, giving up ten runs and struck out three strike-outs. Reed went 1-for-2 with a run scored, while Scott finished with the lone MACU RBI.

The Evangels are 4-14 on the season, and 0-10 in SAC action.

MACU will try to battle back at home against the Stars Saturday, March 8 in a double header. First game of the double header starts at 1:00 p.m.
